Major price cuts announced for Tesla Model Y and Model 3 in Australia

In Australia, the Tesla Model Y and Model 3, the best-selling electric vehicles (EVs), have recently received price cuts. The entry-level Model Y RWD now starts at $55,900 before on-road costs, reduced by $5000, while the base Model 3 RWD is now priced at $54,900 before on-road costs, a $4000 cut. These price reductions mark the cheapest pricing for these EVs seen so far and represent significant drops over the past few months.

The Model Y RWD has seen a $9500 decrease since March, while the updated Model 3 has been cut by $7000 during the same period. The mid-tier Model 3 Long Range AWD now starts at $64,900 before on-road costs, down $3000 (or $7000 since March). Meanwhile, the prices for the Model Y Long Range variants remain unchanged at $69,900 before on-road costs.

The flagship Performance grades of both models have also maintained their pricing at $82,900 for the Model Y and $80,900 for the Model 3, before on-road costs. In addition to Tesla, other carmakers in Australia have also reduced the prices of their EVs in recent months, including GWM Ora, MG 4, Polestar 2, Renault Megane E-Tech, and Nissan Leaf. Despite the price cuts, Tesla remains ahead in sales, with 8001 Model Ys and 6885 Model 3s sold in Australia between January and April 2024.

The company's Model Y deliveries have increased by 52%, while Model 3 registrations have dropped by 22.2%.
