In the current automotive landscape, the debate over electrifying classic cars is a hot topic. Some enthusiasts are thrilled with the idea of updating older models with electric powertrains to keep them on the road, while others are opposed to the shift away from classic gas engines. British company Arcade Cars has entered the fray with their offering, the Sojourn, a resto-modded Mercedes-Benz GE 230 that can be powered by both electric and modern gas options.

Arcade starts with a classic G-Class in the GE 230 model, originally equipped with a 2.3-liter inline-four engine. The company offers the option to retain the original engine for a basic configuration, producing 125 horsepower and 141 pound-feet of torque.

For those seeking more power, an upgraded 2.8-liter gas engine is available, delivering 149 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. The real excitement comes with Arcade's plan to electrify the off-roader in partnership with Everrati, a company renowned for electrifying classic cars such as the Porsche 911, Land Rover Defender, and even the Superformance GT40.

While details on the electric Sojourn project are still forthcoming, it is sure to make waves in the automotive community. Regardless of the power source, the Sojourn's interior is a significant upgrade from the original G-Wagon. Arcade offers luxurious options like Alcantara and premium leathers, along with the ability for buyers to customize various aspects of the cabin, including the steering wheel.

Modern electronics like an Apple CarPlay-enabled touchscreen and a selection of speaker and subwoofer choices add to the overall upscale feel. Of course, luxury comes at a price, with Arcade setting the starting price for the Sojourn at $130,000. This may seem steep, but it pales in comparison to the price tags of other vehicles showcased at events like the Pebble Beach Concours.

Deliveries are expected to begin later this year, but for those eager to experience the Sojourn, gas-powered models are available for purchase on the company's website.
