Nissan Unveils Bold New Qashqai Compact SUV for European Market

Nissan has recently introduced an updated version of its popular Qashqai SUV in Europe, and it has caught our attention with its sleek design. The highlight of this refresh is the introduction of a hybrid "E-Power" model, which combines a turbocharged three-cylinder engine with a 188-hp electric motor. While the Qashqai was available in the U.S. market from 2017 to 2022 as the Rogue Sport, it is unlikely to make a comeback. Despite its success as one of the best-selling vehicles in the UK over the past decade, the Qashqai did not enjoy the same level of popularity in the U.S. With Nissan's new Kicks growing in size, it seems that the Qashqai may not return to American soil. This is unfortunate, as the latest refresh unveiled yesterday showcases a truly stunning design.

The new Qashqai features an angular yet cohesive exterior design, with a wide hexagonal grille inspired by ancient Japanese armor scales. The intricate pattern on the grille is complemented by LED headlights that resemble angry eyebrows, while the taillights feature new graphic elements that tie in with the overall design theme. The interior of the Qashqai has also been upgraded, with higher trim levels boasting premium materials like Alcantara and leather upholstery.

Under the hood, buyers can choose between two mild-hybrid options with a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine, producing either 138 or 157 horsepower. Additionally, there is a full-fledged "E-Power" hybrid model that pairs a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-three engine with a powerful electric motor and battery. While the Qashqai's performance may not be groundbreaking, the E-Power system could be a welcome addition to Nissan's U.S. lineup. Overall, the refreshed Qashqai combines stylish design elements with innovative hybrid technology, making it a compelling choice for European buyers. However, for fans in the U.S., the wait continues for a vehicle that offers both style and sustainability in one package.
